Career overview After
my army term, I stayed in Cincinnati and went to work for a real estate
investment firm. I worked as a real estate salesperson for three years.
Then I went in business for myself as a real estate
investor/broker/realtor and remained so until now. Real estate investorFor
more than 40 years, I have acquired hundreds of properties, often
rehabbed them, and then managed them as rentals or resold. Presently I
own and manage about three million dollars in residential but mostly
commercial investments.
Real estate instructorI’ve
taught real estate courses at University of Cincinnati, Cincinnati
Technical College and Raymond Walters during the 1970s. I’ve taught
investment seminars privately to the public during the 1980s and 1990s.
In the past 15 years, I've given continuing education courses to real
estate agents.Real estate columnistI’ve
written real estate columns for the Cincinnati Enquirer, the Cincinnati
Post, the Community Press papers and the Downtowner.Real estate authorI
have written 5 books, MAKING MONEY IN CINCINNATI, 1982, BARGAINS IN
REAL ESTATE, 1984, THE ROTHENBERG LEASE-OPTION STRATEGY, 1986, and
CINCINNATI’S FIRST TIME HOME BUYERS’ GUIDE, 1988. My most recent book,
published 1998, is called ED ROTHENBERG'S REAL ESTATE GUIDE.Television personalityDid real estate segments for Channel 12, Nick Clooney News, one year, 1982. Currently,
I have a monthly one hour real estate call-in show on Cincinnati's Media
Bridges Public Access Cable TV, started Jan, 1992. It is called Ed
Rothenberg on Real Estate. I also host a two hour political
discussion show on cable called the McRothenberg Group which began in
1997.Community activist- I
was one of the LEAD ORGANIZERS of the petition drive in Hamilton County
in June of 2007 that gathered 56,000 signatures to force the 7% sales
tax to the ballot and defeat. Our sales tax thus remains at 6 1/2%
which is high enough.
- In
2004, I was the lead Realtor suing the Cincinnati Board of Realtors on
behalf of 52 small Realtors and Brokers to save the public MLS website.
We lost the case and home buyers lost a consumer friendly access to the
MLS.
- I ran for county commissioner last November against Todd Portune. He was too tough of an incumbent and retained his seat.
Current business statusSemi-retired. My
property is well maintained with few rental turnovers and is managed by
me. I have two sales people who have their license with me and I
receive a small share of the commissions they earn.
